The mention of the word facials often causes grown men to giggle and conjures images of the sex act made famous in porno flicks, but in the modern world going for a facial is a standard form of beauty care many women and men participate in.
What’s not normal is going for a penis facial. This little known beauty treatment hit the headlines when Australian actress Cate Blanchett let it be known her and Ocean’s 8 co-stars Sandra Bullock underwent the treatment to maintain their youthful appearance.
“Sandra Bullock and I saw this facialist in New York, Georgia Louise, and she gives what we call the penis facial,” Blanchett told Vouge Australia.
“It’s something – I don’t know what it is, or whether it’s just cause it smells a bit like sperm – there’s some enzyme in it so Sandy refers to it as the penis facial.”
Officially known as the Hollywood EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) Facial, this disgusting sounding process not only smells like sperm but is also derived from cells taken from the foreskin of newborn Korean babies.
According to Louise Georgia’s website the Hollywood EDF Facial uses “FDA approved stem cells and peptides (that) are penetrated deep into the skin using a special electric micro-needling wand. This process allows the active ingredients to be transported deep in the skin by creating temporary micro-channel.”
As wild as it sounds the use of stem cells in the cosmetic industry has been ongoing for years. The majority of anti-aging creams use stem cells taken from plants or fruits. It’s believed the stem cells in these products can encourage cellular growth and rejuvenate old skin cells, thus making you look younger and healthier. Despite the market being flooded with skin care products to help people look younger there is no actual scientific evidence they work at such a basic level.
With the penis facial you also have to take into account a chemical peel is applied before the facial and followed by an electrifying mask, making it hard to judge what part of the process is actually having an effective impact, if any.
But none of this has deterred people from enlisting Georgia Louise for her services, with the public happy to fork out $650 a session for a treatment with no scientific backing.
As far as the penis facial goes I’m not sure what’s worse, having semen rubbed on your face or the fact it comes from babies, but with celebrities endorsing the process and people hailing it a success it seems penis facials are the new way to stay youthful.
