You would have to be an incredibly vanilla entity if you’ve never heard hide nor hair of South African hip hop group Die Antwoord. From their unholy inception in 2008, they started off as a threesome which included rappers Ninja, Yolandi Visser and DJ Hi-Tek (now rehashed as a producer named God) in the wholesome surroundings of Cape Town. Their namesake is rooted in Afrikaans and translates to “The Answer” in yee olde English, which indeed they are. The delightfully offbeat troupe are the answer to challenging normalcy and all its boring associated constraints. For just under a decade they have been breathing new life into the alternative hip hop and EDM scenes with face-meltingly original content.
And now they’ve ejaculated a new concept in the form of a television series entitled South African Ninja. A cock-tease trailer was released on their official YouTube channel in late July and features various scenes from their music clips over the years, including titles from their debut album $O$ (2009) right up until sequences associated with Mount Ninji and da Nice Time Kid (2016). This includes many visuals of Ninja’s questionably attractive face being pulverised in various scenarios and Yolandi looking delectably demonic, which is the standard. Not to mention vandalised boobies and a raging ZEF boner which isn't given nearly enough screen time.

In 2010, Die Antwoord revealed to Exclaim! Magazine their plan to cap album releases at record number five which is fast approaching. This statement was supported by announcements via their social media pages in early 2017. Their final album, entitled The Book of Zef is scheduled for unveiling in September of this year. They will not, however, be breaking up as they still have many projects planned for the future which aren’t necessarily based in music. The first single, 'Love Drug', began circulating on May 5 and is saturated lyrically with their admiration for each other and an intensive bass soundscape. Although it is very dissimilar to their early works, they seem to be paving the way for a new direction in their final studio release or perhaps their Zef engine is just running out of steam.
Take a gander and cast a judgement for yourself, the lyric video is available here:
Ninja and Yolandi are certainly a multi-talented duo. Not only do they produce media across the board, they even conceived a child together by the name of Sixteen. It’s one of the lesser known facts about the two. Their daughter has appeared in music videos, such as 'I Fink U Freeky' back in 2012 and even starred alongside Jack Black in their short film 'Tommy Can’t Sleep'.
Die Antwoord seem to have an eclectic mix of celebrity associates which include but aren’t limited to, Dita Von Teese, Marilyn Manson and Cara Delevingne. Dita has not only donated herself to the music video for 'Ugly Boy' in 2014 but also her voice acting capabilities in the tune 'Gucci Coochie' released in 2016 which is essentially a celebration of fanny power. There’s just something about these two which will remain relevant into the distant future when the Earth becomes a Dystopian nightmare.
