“We started as a result of being fed up with the status-quo of Aussie street fashion. We weren’t competition surfers or sponsored skaters, we weren’t preppy rich boys and we didn’t wear ultra-baggy tees with spray on jeans,” says Sam from Billy Bones.
The bold headwear brand has been making waves among the fashion-conscious, wank-free Melbourne streetwear scene, as trends steer away from straight-up surf and towards a greater sense of style.
“We’re just normal people who appreciate cool shit.”
Fanging on a lid isn’t a new concept, but drawing inspiration from their customers, and not a conceited lookbook, is what puts Billy Bones ahead of the pack.
“It’s that individual cool that can’t really be placed into any one genre that really inspires us. So we try to design products that people will look at and instantly think: fuck yeah!”
