In 2015, Jesse Bilkey narrowly survived a car accident that saw him sustain life changing injuries, including several broken vertebrae. In the subsequent months, he spent a great deal of time in a hospital bed rehabilitating. He used that time to develop his skills in website building, product development and sock design. And his sock empire – Fredrick Harold – was born.
To get his dream off the ground, Bilkey started a crowdfunding campaign, greatly exceeded its target. These days, boutiques all over Australia stock Fredrick Harold’s fresh footwear.
Fredrick Harold Sock Co. uses a premium cotton blend sourced largely from Southern and Central New South Wales, which gives a luxurious lightweight cushion for the foot with high absorbance and rapid moisture wicking.
The company name comes from Bilkey’s Grandfather, who was a farmer from Victoria. His decades of tirelessly working the land and community building are what have inspired the birth of Fredrick Harold as a brand.
Earlier this year, Bilkey announced he would plant a tree for every pair of Fredrick Donald socks sold. Last month, in partnership with other local startups in the Donald area, 5000 trees were planted.

HAWKE’S BREWING CO.
Hawkes Brewing Co. is the story of two Aussie blokes who had a dream to run a beer company, built on the values of a national icon – the great former Prime Minister, Bob Hawke. In 2017, the dream turned into a reality.
Besides brewing great beer, the independent beer company follows in the footsteps of Bob Hawke’s passion for the sustainable management of the environment. A percentage of profits goes to Landcare Australia, with every drop of Hawke’s sold helping to support rural communities and farmers.
The partnership brings the Landcare brand to a new audience, which aims to generate even more positive exposure for the environmentally focused non-for-profit.
Bob Hawke himself was so passionate about the initiative that he forewent all financial benefit, and passing it on as donations to Landcare Australia. “Every sip is a quid for the landscape,” said Bob. Cheers to that.
