Remembering Shane Warne: Australia’s Bad Boy of Cricket
Warnie’s Death Knocked Us For A Six, But The Legendary Larrikin’s Memory Lives On.
Australian cricket lost a legend last Friday, when spin king Shane Warne died of a suspected heart attack at the age of 52 while on a boy’s trip in Thailand. And while many remember Warnie for his iconic cricketing achievements, including delivering the famous ‘ball of the century’ to Mike Gatting in 1993, we can’t forget what a bloody larrikin the blonde-haired blue-eyed Aussie was as well.
Warnie’s passion and enthusiasm for the game, mirrored his adventurous playboy life off the pitch.
Referred to as Australia’s bad boy of cricket, Warnie resonated with all of us.
He loved ciggies, beer, women, meat pies, mischief, his mates and a laugh. He was a down-to-earth larrikin who was once called a ‘liability’ for dropping his pants during a game in the 90’s, and was known to sneak off during matches for a sneaky cigarette.
He kept the headlines spicy with his off-field escapades, with dirty texts, drug scandals, gambling, sex parties, sex tapes, and multiple cheating scandals; including an infamous champagne-fuelled threesome with two 25-year-old models, a blow-up sex toy and a hidden camera; and that time he was busted having an affair with pornstar Chloe Conrad while engaged to Hollywood bombshell Elizabeth Hurley.
While Shane Warne is one of cricket’s all-time greats, he’s also a down-to-earth Aussie through and through.
And while he might be gone, legends never truly die.
RIP Warnie. Thanks for the memories.
